World Extremes Right Now
Ranked from 34 watched cities · updated hourly
From the 34 cities in our live watch list — the lists are sorted by the current OpenWeather readings, so the values change every hour. This is not the official world record book (remote desert stations are not monitored here), but it mirrors the "two worlds" of planetary climate: humid tropical cities, cold continental cities and the polar wind circuit.

Cross-reading: why "feels like" differs
The heat index combines temperature and humidity: at 35°C with 60% humidity the body experiences 45°C+ because sweat stops evaporating — our natural cooling mechanism. Strong wind does the opposite, lowering the wind chill in cold cities. Those two effects also explain why Kuala Lumpur (33°C, 60%+) is more exhausting than Dubai (40°C, 20%) despite the lower number.
Real planetary records
The hottest reliably recorded place on Earth: Death Valley, USA — 56.7°C (1913, disputed) / 54.4°C (accepted 2020-21). Coldest: Vostok station, Antarctica — −89.2°C (1983). Strongest measured wind: Barrow Ridge, Antarctica, ~400 km/h katabatic flow. The largest "hottest twin" cities usually sit in the Arab/Sahara desert belt; the most humid large cities sit in equatorial deltas such as Kuching and Kolkata.
